Glorifying God by loving him, loving others and making disciples among all peoples.
Shades Valley Community Church is a welcoming community affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America. Although we do have various ministries to our congregation and the larger communities of Homewood and Birmingham, Alabama, we are not a program driven church. SVCC is congregationally ruled, but elder led. Our various ministries are primarily overseen by the Servant Leadership Team, a nominated and appointed gathering of community members serving and assisting in the direction and development of our ministries. Join us Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

Global Missions Update: Pastor Steve Exantus came to visit us a few months ago to update us on his mission work in Haiti, and he shared about many of the needs he has for the upcoming year. Presently he is working to raise money to complete the church/school in the Northwest region that was destroyed in the 2017 storm. These are pictures of the progress! They have an engineer on board that is helping to create a structure that will be more resistant to future storms, and they are working with local builders and suppliers to support the local Haitian economy. They are within $3,000-$5,000 of completing the building, and you can help support this project, or their other needs through the SVCC website (write ‘Haiti’ on the ‘special instructions’ line) or by purchasing items from our Global Missions booth at the West Homewood Farmer’s Market on Tuesday nights.

Such an amazing moment the Lord blessed us with on Easter as we celebrated the baptism of our brother Blake! #reasonsiloveSVCC

Always a favorite moment each year. #SVCCadvent2018
#MidweekMusings: Episode 14 Are Biblical characters heroic examples? When we think of Joseph, Moses, Ruth, David, Esther, etc... are these men and women mean to primarily be examples to us of how we should live our lives? Or do their stories have a deeper, more powerful purpose?
#MidweekMusings: Episode 13 Dying for the glory of God? In John 21, Jesus tells Peter that he will be martyred, and we are told his death will glorify God. How? How can Peter or any Christian glorify God through their death? This is not something we like to talk about, but it is something we will all face and should be prepared for. You can glorify God through how you live and how you die! You can glorify God with all of your life!
#MidweekMusings: Episode 12 Why preach through books of the Bible? It has taken us 87 sermons to go through the Gospel of John at SVCC... why would anybody do that? What is the point? What is this thing called "expository preaching" all about?
#MidweekMusings: Episode 11 Can we decide who God forgives? John 20:23 is a strange verse that makes it sound like God has given us the power to decide who gets forgiven and who doesn't. What does this verse actually mean and is it good news?
#MidweekMusings: Episode 10 Why does doctrine matter? Doesn't doctrine just end up dividing Christians? Why can't we all just love and follow Jesus? That sounds simpler... doesn't it? In this episode we explore just a few reasons that doctrine is vitally important to our faith.
#MidweekMusings: Episode 9 Is it reasonable to believe that Jesus rose from the dead? When we consider the resurrection through the lens of apologetics... does it actually strengthen our faith? Are there really good reasons for believing in the ruessurection?
